This is a mid-nineteenth century Welsh breakfront dresser with open plate rack above. This is an unusual piece with a predominantly oak construction but using hand selected mahogany on the doors and drawers. The doors and drawers have moulded frames and wood turned handles and ivory lock plates, some of which are false. As can be seen in the pictures some of the handles have been damaged and chipped over many years of use. The two cupboard doors are fully lockable and come with a key each. The sideboard base contains a central bank of traditionally dovetailed drawers which are flanked by the two cupboard doors with an additional drawer above the cupboard doors. The dresser top contains three plate rack shelves and has a moulded cornice to the top. The open rack dresser top is secured to the sideboard base by way of the screws fixed to the bracket foot supports. The dresser stands on square feet with a moulded frieze above.

We are a local, independent and family run business with a long family history spanning four generations of furniture and home accessory retail dating back nearly 100 years. Father and son team Steve and Ken have over 50 years of combined experience in all aspects of the furniture industry; from the manufacture and design of new furniture right through to sourcing and retail of antique and second hand items.
The Hunwick name has been well known in Colchester for outstanding customer service, a unique and often unusual product selection and superb value for money for nearly a century and this is a tradition which is still being kept alive today. Hunwick Interiors has been named after Ken's Great grandfather, Alfred, who arrived in Colchester from Kelvedon around 1920 and set up the first furniture, home accessory and 'lino' showrooms in Eld Lane, Colchester. Over the years since there have been many changes in both Colchester as a town and in a wider sense the furnishing industry as a whole, but in many ways the core features of what we are striving to achieve today are the same values pursued by Alfred Hunwick all those years ago.
