A Mid-Victorian walnut davenport writing desk with barley twist front supports and an unusual enclosed bank of drawers. The hinged writing flap on top is inlaid with gold embossed red leather and is backed by carved pierced foliate scroll. When lifted the writing flap reveals a satin wood lined interior with two short drawers and what appears to be one long drawer to the rear. The long drawer is false and conceals a pull out pen tray which when fully extended can operate on a hinge allowing the tray to rest parallel to the right hand side of the davenport. There are two pull out slides located beneath the writing desk interior.
The main body of the davenport contains a bank of drawers to the right hand side which are concealed behind a hinged panel. This is done to maintain the symmetry of the piece. The writing desk top is supported at the rear end of the cabinet with attractive barley twist column supports to the front. The column supports join the base of the davenport and terminate in turned pad feet.

We are a local, independent and family run business with a long family history spanning four generations of furniture and home accessory retail dating back nearly 100 years. Father and son team Steve and Ken have over 50 years of combined experience in all aspects of the furniture industry; from the manufacture and design of new furniture right through to sourcing and retail of antique and second hand items.
The Hunwick name has been well known in Colchester for outstanding customer service, a unique and often unusual product selection and superb value for money for nearly a century and this is a tradition which is still being kept alive today. Hunwick Interiors has been named after Ken's Great grandfather, Alfred, who arrived in Colchester from Kelvedon around 1920 and set up the first furniture, home accessory and 'lino' showrooms in Eld Lane, Colchester. Over the years since there have been many changes in both Colchester as a town and in a wider sense the furnishing industry as a whole, but in many ways the core features of what we are striving to achieve today are the same values pursued by Alfred Hunwick all those years ago.
