A superb and rare Georgian mahogany secretaire press of outstanding quality manufactured by 'Gillows of Lancaster'.
The upper section is enclosed by two paneled doors, opening to reveal three original oak lined sliding trays. Below this section is the secretaire, revealing a wonderfully designed fitted interior consisting of a varied selection of oak lined drawers fitted with axe head brass handles, above and below three shaped pigeon holes, on either side of a central locking door, flanked by two double reeded column secret compartments. The writing surface is a refurbished tan hide, and gold tooled section.
The lower section consist of two short and two long cock beaded, oak lined drawers, fitted with original shaped and patterned brass handles on oval back plates. The complete press is supported on shaped bracket feet. The 'Gillows of Lancaster' stamp is boldly impressed on the righ hand short drawer. A set of keys completes this remarkable item of Georgian furniture.

Hunwick Interiors has been named after Ken's Great grandfather, Alfred, who arrived in Colchester from Kelvedon around 1920 and set up the first furniture, home accessory and 'lino' showrooms in Eld Lane, Colchester. Over the years since there have been many changes in both Colchester as a town and in a wider sense the furnishing industry as a whole, but in many ways the core features of what we are striving to achieve today are the same values pursued by Alfred Hunwick all those years ago.
